Cousin Memories - Taken from Wilda's Personal History

Wilda’s Cousins:
Kay-Irene-Edith-Edna-Elenor-Dorthea Millward

After supper Wilda along with her cousins would have to get their lessons done, whether it was reading, arithmetic or
geography. Edna and Wilda (were the same age) joined the 4-H cooking club. They each had to can five pint bottles of fruits and vegetables. They would win first and second place ribbons on each bottle entered! With her cousins, they would make a ball diamond in the pasture and all the boys and girls in Bitter Creek would come for a ball game! Afternoons in the summertime they would walk down to Fairview and swim in “Big Hole”! They would have bonfires and candy pulls.

One fun experience Wilda had with Edna was going camping with the older girls in Bitter Creek! Alice Barrus took them and a few other girls in a little buggy up Cottonwood Lake. It stormed all night. They didn’t have a tent so they had to take their bed rolls and sleep in the girl’s restroom!

Wilda and Edna were taught to be great Sunday School teachers by observing the way her Aunt Mary would give the lesson and then find an exciting story with a good moral to tell. Mary decided it would be good for Wilda and Edna to tell the story – so every other Sunday Wilda got to tell the story and learned the more real you could make it the better the class was. This was where Wilda began to have a love for teaching the gospel to the little ones.

The man Wilda would fall in love with and marry actually started out by dating her cousin Edna! Her uncle Lyle was
teasing Wilda and Edna and said, “Now when Melvin comes to the door tonight the one that answers the door will get
to go with him!” Edna had a date that night so Wilda got to answer the door and sure enough Melvin asked her out!

Cousin Memories - Tawnya Olson Harrison

My cousin memory:

My earliest cousin memory would have to be LONG Sunday drives to Brigham City @ 55 MPH to visit Larry and Myrna’s family. I loved seeing Laura and Lisa and the chats we would have in the basement. There was always a homemade treat too! It is hard to believe now having to drive to Star Valley to see them, or Provo to visit.

My recent memories are that awesome time visiting with Gina and Janae at the football game, and I will never forget standing against the fence the entire whole Las Vegas bowl game with Sandee.

Michael Mel had come and stayed with our family while his parents were out of town. We had gone with my mom up town to take Tawnya to her organ lessons. While we were waiting for her, Mike found an injured bird and wanted to take it home so bad!

Cousin Memories

I remember when Kristen came to Logan and stayed at our apartment while I was attending college for the weekend checking things out at USU.

Tresa came to Midvale with her team to play the Huskies when I was on the volleyball team at Hillcrest and she was on the team at Mountain View!

I was able to see Sandee at the MTC while I was there when I went to get copies. It was so fun to see her!

I appreciated Gina playing the piano at my wedding reception!

Recently as we made the move to southern Utah, we ended up in the same ward as Kristen and her family. It has been fun to get to know them and play with them. I have run into David Ord’s family a few times at Target here as well. We’ve been able to have dinner with Kristen, Chad, and David’s family here in Southern Utah!

Cousin Memory:
The fun reunions at Star Valley. People slept on the floor, lawn, a
camper, and beds. Grandpa Olson came home from work late and didn't have a place to sleep because Grandma had already given up their bed to one of their children so he would find someone he could share a bed with (it was probably a twin bed) and called it a " bed pal," Playing lawn game relays on Grandpa and Grandma's lawn, riding Smokey Pal, watching Grandpa ride smokey pal was so fun! The fair and rodeo were fun. I loved Grandma's waffles, sitting by the heater in their kitchen, and watching cartoons with their rabbit ears TV. I remember the candy jar with pink mints and licorice and the cookie jar with spiced raision cookies and the pretty dolls in the living room.
Talent shows at every gathering, fun get togethers after
BYU football games at Denices. She made the best rice krispie bars. We had fun playing football, lawn games, and swinging on the swings in the park by her house.I remember tons of Christmas parties with present swaps and loved to see how meaningful it was to see Grandpa bask in each moment of his family being together. Cousin Memories - Melissa Olson Gibson

One of the cousin memories I have is when we used to go to different aunts and uncles houses for the Christmas party. We would all be crowded in there and then Grandma Olson would tell her story about The Last Straw. I remember being so enthralled when she would tell her story.
She always had a special way about her when she told stories. I have always loved that story and the memories that it now has for me. We would exchange presents and just be together as a family. It always brought such good feelings and was a great memory of Christmas.

Cousin Memories - Tresa Olson

My memory:

I remember going to Wyoming every year as a young child to Grandma and Grandpa's perfect, small, and inviting white house. It was a tradition. All the cousins would chase each other around the house, up and down the narrow stairway.

One of my most fun memories with the cousins is going to Aunt Deniece's house after the football games, eating dinner and then playing games in the big park by their old house. Tresa Olson

Charlie came in for a week with the family. We were going and going all week and it was a lot of fun! Charlie's girlfriend, Tam, came in for the weekend. Tam is a really good cook, we all ate like kings while she was here! It was a lot of fun seeing them and we can't wait until they come back again!

One day I was teasing the girls that they had to "write an essay" before diving into all the good foods I had brought from the store. Zoie (age 9) took me seriously and wrote an essay so she could have permission to have a scoop of ice cream. I thought it was cute and wanted to share.

ICE CREAM

Ice cream is one of my favorite things in the world. I know it is unhealthy, but everyone needs to have unhealthy things in life. Ice cream is yummy, creamy, soft, good tasting, delicious, and it is even famous for being yummy. There can be chocolate, strawberry, mint chip, Reese's, and many more! There are so many flavors of ice cream. I could even eat them all!

I know I don't deserve ice cream because I didn't go to school today. But it was for an important reason. I have a very sore throat! Ice cream helps sore throats because of the creaminess, it's one of the only things in the world that doesn't hurt when you swallow. I love ice cream, but not as much as I love you.

Counsin Memorie (kindof)-Krystine Olson Stephenson

I have been trying to think of cousin memories for a while and have had a hard time coming up with something worth saying. I wasn't one of the older cousins that were around when Grandma was alive. I didn't think that I had anything interesting to share and then I started thinking about Grandpa and what a great person he is to me. Grandpa always talked about wanting to be with Grandma ever since I could remember but it wasn't until he finally got to be with Grandma that I realized how much he meant to me in my life! He was always there, for everything. He went to my softball games, award ceremonies, baptism, anything that was big in my life, but he was also there for all the small things too. I remember going to his ward in Orem and was amazed at how many people knew and loved my Grandpa. The women at Great Harvest Bread would always say how great our Grandpa was because he was the friendliest person they had ever met (he's always ride his bike down there and say hi to them). I just know that he showed me such an example of how to be friendly and love the people that were around me. I remember his funeral in Orem and in Starr Valley and all the people that were there and how hard it was for our family to say 'goodbye' to him. I am so thankful for the Olson family, because I have learned so much from being around people like you. Even though I wish I knew a lot of you better then I do, I know there is still time to get to know you and I am so thankful for this blog and the chance we have to get to know each other through different means!

Cousin Memories
I remember the time we went to Star Valley and I suggested going to Intermitten Springs – so several of us went and all I can remember is Uncle Mel’s leg hurt like crazy! I love the many times we spent going to Star Valley and my Dad telling us all the wonderful stories about his childhood!
